1928 Press Photo Wealthy Englishman Taken For $140,000 in Honolulu Swindle

Thomas Beedham, a wealthy Englishman, who while on a vacation trip to Honolulu with his wife and daughter, was billed $140,000 by confidence man of the tie honored rack track game, arrives here on his way home to London, England, a sadder but wiser man. Beedham, a wealthy British merchange fell in with bunko men on the steamer to Honolulu. Later he was led by one of the confidence men to where he found a wallet containing a large sum of money and supposedly inside turf information. He was led on to bet and eventually was flooded out of $140,000. Photo shows Thomas Beedham on his return here aboard the Dollar Liner President.
