In Oberlin, Ohio, at the 22nd Quadrennial Mock Convention, students met and nominated Michigan Senator Arthur Vandenberg as its choice for the nation's top office, with Senator Raymond Baldwin of Connecticut as his running mate. Governor Thomas Dewey, Senator Robert Taft and Harold Stassen were "also-rans." Senator H. Alexander Smith of New Jersey keynoted the convention, and Ohio Governor Thomas J. Herbert addressed the 1500 student delegates and 4000 spectators. At the first meeting in 1860, Abraham Lincoln was nominated.
