Gerald Ray, 3 1/2, who was seriously burned several months ago, left his bed in a Lawrence hospital for the first time since the mishap to try out a Japanese folding bicycle, clothes, and toys sent to him by men of the aircraft carrier, USS Princeton, in Korean waters. The sailors sent the gifts after reading a newspaper article in which Gerald requested picture cards to help him pass lonely hours.

Photo is dated 1951.
