Msgr Panquale Macci (center), private secretary of Pope Paul VI pushes away a crew cut, cassock-clad Benjamin Mendoza y Amor, a Bolivian painter, who tried to assassinate the pontiff during his arrrval ceremony at Manila Airport. Pope Paul is partially obscured at left.
