1940 Press Photo Wayne Tompkins, 11/2 landed this 3000 pound tooth whale via rod

Many a whooping fish story has been built on evidence like this, in which Wayne Tompkins, 1 1/2 seems to have landed this 3000 pound tooth whale via rod and real on the beach at San Diego. What actually happened was that Wayne came bu as the whale died in the surf, washed ashore after having been shot. The San Diego natural history society arranged to remove the whale.
