1953 Press Photo Fire at Statesville Penitentiary

Firemen and prisoners battle stubborn blaze by pouring water in basement of furniture factory of Statesville Penitentiary. Warden Joseph Ragen said that there were about 300 men at work in the building when fire was discovered but all escaped unharmed.
