1951 Press Photo The Monster Machine

Photo shows on top is Dr. Gail Adams, Physicist, puts final touches to University of California's new 16-ton synchrotron which he hopes will start experimental operations. The monster machine is housed in a new building run up against the side of the hill behind UC's S.F. Medical Center. The synchrotron occupies a large chamber whose concrete walls are three feet thick. Bottom photo, Dr. Adams in charge of project is interviewed.
