Standing left to right: Lester Smith of Princeton University, Adrian Waloorf of Brooklyn College, P.M. Hefferman of Harvard and Thomas T. Russell of the University of Pennsylvania look to finish the last hurdle for the 28th Paris Prize in Architecture of the Society of Beaux Arts Architects. For 36 hours the four finalists will be locked in solitary confinement in four separate loges in the building of the Beaux-Arts Institutes of Design, in New York City. During the confinement the gentlemen are expected to work, sleep, eat and refrain from any communication to the outside world. This photograph was taken just before the final stage of the contest started.

Photo is dated 1936.

Photo measures 8 x 6 inches.
