1945 Press Photo Child Slayer and Wife

A 42-year-old war worker and former inmate at the Kalamazoo State Hospital, Carl Gilbert (R) who pleaded guilty to first degree murder charges in the fatal beating of his five-year-old daughter by a second by a second marriage, Jessie Pearl, with an axe. 47-year-old, Mrs. Gilbert (L), third wife of the confessed slayer witnessed the killing but said she was too horrified to stop her husband.
