1951 Press Photo Carl Snider And Family Stand At Center of U.S. Population

Carl Snider stands with his wife and children. The marker, erected on the Snider farm near Dundas, Illinois, was selected after a U.S. Census Bureau "Citizen Count" in 1950 to show the westward distribution of the American population. Since 1790 the point had been moved from Chestertown, Maryland to this spot.
