1930 Press Photo Fire Destroys Lamport & Holt Pier, North River, New Jersey

Several ocean liners along the piers at Hoboken were threatened by the fire, which started in a shanty 100 feet away from Pier 15, spread under the flooring to the pier and soon ignited quantities of crude oil on the piers.
