Jersey City, New Jersey - Part of a contingent of twenty Americans volunteering for service in Africa with the British-American Ambulance Corps are shown aboard the Egyptian steamer Zam Zam before sailing with twenty ambulances and other equipment. They will serve with the Free French Forces of Gen. De. Gaulle. Front row, left to right: Charles McCarthy, Charles Harriss, John Ryan, Francis Viconari, Frederick Hoeing, William Wydenbruck-Loe, George Tichenor. Back row, left to right: William Davidson, George Butcher, George Finneran, Henry Emscheimer, Philip Faversham (son of former actor William Faversham). Some of them saw service in the French Campaign last year.
