The city of Plymouth was one of the worst hit of the British cities during the last year. Over 72,000 of its houses were destroyed or damaged by enemy bombs. Gradually the city is being rebuilt, an now, seven years afterwards, in the heart of Plymouth modern white buildings are taking the place of the gaping spaces and bombed-out ruins of war's devastation. Top Picture: Rebuilding the center of Plymouth. Near the foreground stands a new building containing stores and offices. On the left is St. Andrew's Church, temporarily roofed. Bottom: Gray line indicates the area before rebuilding. Outside the line are other areas laid to waste by the bombs.

Photo is dated 1952.

Photo measures 8 x 10.25 inches.
