In custom dating from early times, fellow choir boys upend Michael Balaam at a boundary point of the Savoy Chapel parish on Victoria embankment in London, England Sunday. Object of ceremony dates from Anglo-Saxon days when maps of church property were rare. Church officials, with crowd of boys, make tour of parish demarcation lines. Object of bouncing, or sometimes beating, the boys is to insure that witnesses to boundary inspection will survive as long as possible. Inspection comes on Ascension Day or during Rogation Week. Man at right is not identified.

Photo is dated 1957.

Photo measures 8 x 10 inches.
