1953 Press Photo Mosque and Educational Center Nearly Complete in Washington DC

A 16-foot minaret proudly displaying the crescent of Islam rises above nearly completed Mosque and Educational Center being built to accommodate the more than 1,000 persons of Moslem faith who reside in Washington, D.C. It's located in the Embassy section along Massachusetts Avenue. The Mosque, which is expected to be Islam's showpiece and foremost shrine in the western world, is being built under the auspices of a foundation sponsored by the 11 Mohammedan diplomatic missions in the U.S. capital.
