1953 Press Photo Wood experts examine heavy beam that supports Liberty Bell

A group of experts on wood examines the heavy beam which supports the Liberty Bell in Independence Hall in Philadelphia. The problem is to determine the type of wood in the beam and whether or not the present structure is strong enough to continue supporting the 2,080-pound bell. The experts are (bottom-left to right): MO Anderson, head of Independence National Historical Park; LJ Markwardt; (top-left to right): Allen D. Freas, also a wood expert from Forest Products, and BF Kahuchka.
