1974 Press Photo IL Gov. Dan Walker runs along Memorial Day parade in Chicago

Chicago IL Illinois Gov. Dan Walker ran (left) along the Memorial Day parade route in Chicago Thursday, then sat (right) on a curb to catch his breath. Walker would stop to greet people along the route, then run to catch up with the marchers. In the photo at right, he sat between Lincoln Tamraz (left) of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Joe Zemrowski of the American Legion. Illinois was one of states that opted to celebrate the Memorial Day holiday on the traditional May 30.
