Once he's in the field, a soldier carries his own weight, plus rifle and 62 pounds his pack weighs. Sergeant F. Hunsaker of Quincy, Illinois, shows (left) how pack is worn and (right) what items go in pack. Rifle (1) weighing about 8 pounds is not included in 62 pound total.
