1961 Press Photo Tunisian National Guardsmen guard a roadblock, Tunisia

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Violence in Tunisia has brought out national guardsmen, who, like this soldier, guard barriers in scattered areas where trouble between Tunisian and French troops has erupted. The sign indicated that the barrier was about 28 miles from Tunis, where a screaming mob had smashed windows in the United States information agency library, hurled rocks and besieged the gates of the French embassy in protest of French military actions.
