While pigeons flew overhead, thousands of mourners attended a solemn peace ceremony Sunday at the spot where the United States dropped its first atomic bomb in 1945. The nuclear holocaust at Hiroshima, Japan, killed an estimated 80,000 persons and is said to have hastened the end of World War II. The ceremony marked the 27th anniversary of the event.
