Vice Admiral John H. Sides poses today at his Pentagon office after being named as commander-in-chief of the Pacific fleet. He will take over the post September 1 when Admiral Herbert G. Hopwood retires. Admiral Sides now is director of the weapons system evaluation group in the office of the Secretary of Defense.
