The president's candidates for top military posts posed together Thursday before being questioned on their defense policies by the senate armed services committee. From left are General Matthew Ridgway, nominated for army chief of staff; Admiral Robert Carney, nominated for chief of naval operations; Admiral Arthur Radford, nominated for chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, and General Nathan Twining, nominated for air force chief of staff. The committee unanimously approved the nominations.
