C.A. Mathew (center, partially obscured) of Villapark, Illinois, assists in the training of three Japanese air self defense forces students as they check radar antenna equipment on a roof at Johnson Air Base near Tokyo. The students have been undergoing training since Autumn at the Far East Air Force Radar School at the base. The school was organized under provisions of the mutual defense assistance pact between the U.S. and Japan. The students, working from special textbooks prepared in both English and Japanese languages, are being instructed by veterans of military and civilian service.
