1962 Press Photo USN High Speed Target Drone, Q-2C Firebee Takes off from Ground

United States Navy Remote Controlled Craft: A Q-2C Firebee, a high speed target drone, takes off from the ground at the Naval Missile Center at Point Mugu, California, under 11,000 pounds of thrust. Launching was first from the ground as the drone previously only had been air-launched from mother planes. Craft in flight is controlled by radio from either a ground station or from a plane.
