The Pentagon is reported puzzled by President Eisenhower's remark in his 11/7 nation-wide address that "the B-52 (top photo) will be succeeded by the B-58 (bottom photo), a supersonic bomber, "The military was under the impression that the B-58 Rustler which because of its high fuel consumption (to give it supersonic speed) has an approximate range of only 3,000 miles without midair refueling, would replace the present medium range B-47 and not the B-52, which is a heavy long-range bomber with a range of approximately 6000 miles without midair refueling.
