The famous rainbow to march again---Here are the men of Company K, 165th Infantry of the "Fightin" 69th" in the famous old Rainbow division on their way to the trenches at St. Clement, France, March 1918. The 69th was a New York National Guard outfit from which emerged two famous characters, the late Father Duffy and Colonel "Wild Bill" Donovan. In 1917, the Rainbow--the 42nd--was a composite of National Guard units from 26 states and the District of Columbia. On July 14, 1943, the Rainbow, with troops from every state of the Union, will be recreated at Camp Gruber, Oklahoma (United States) (Wars) (World War I) (Armed Forces) (France) (National Guard)
