Navy completes memorial to John Paul Jones, its first commodore, at birthplace, Kirkbean, Scotland---Officers and men of the United States Navy, who served in Great Britain during World War II, contributed funds that built a permanent memorial to John Paul Jones, first Commodore of the United States Navy, at his birthplace, Kirkbean, Calloway, Scotland. The memorial took the form of a baptismal font, designed and executed by George Henry Paulin, a Scottish sculptor. its inscriptions include a dedication, a Navy seal, a plaque of Jones' famous Bon Homme Richard, a modern battleship, heavy cruiser, submarine, aircraft carrier and naval aircraft. it was presented "by the the officers and men of the United States Navy who served in Great Britain under the command of Admiral Harold R.
