The earliest known picture of the Carl Kunckell house reveals an almost rural setting. The picture was taken before S. 16th st. was cut through. Later excavations on the other sides made the house a virtual island, as indicated in the sketch, right. The dirt path in the foreground of the photograph became successively 11th av. and S. 16th st.
