1964 Press Photo Cars in mechanical roll test at General Motors in California

Fremont, California: Three cars undergo "mechanical roll test "simultaneously at the end of the final assembly line in General Motors' new plant here. After each car is positioned on the "rolls" (fours large revolving drums recessed in plant floor), it is put through a cycle of acceleration, deceleration, and braking to check engine, transmission suspension, and brakes for proper operation. Speedometer accuracy is also checked
