1968 Press Photo Italian made F104 "S" Super Starfighter shooting missile in CA

A radar guided Sparrow missile streaks from beneath the wing of an Italian Air Force F104 "S" Super Starfighter in a test firing against a target drone over the Pacific on the U.S. Navy's Pt. Mugu, California, missile range. The shot scored a direct hit. An Italian aircraft industry team head by Fiat is building 165 of the new F104 "S" aircraft which fly twice the speed of sound.
