Description
Between N. Hopkins Street and N. Teutonia Avenue and W. Congress Street and W. Silver Spring Drive, may not know that they are in what once was the City of North Milwaukee. The area became a village in 1897 and a city in 1918. It was consolidated with the City of Milwaukee in 1928. Right: Town Pride, at W. Villard and N. Teutonia Avenues, was opened in 1949 by Harold Schwemmer, who had another stand at 6030 W. Villard. Both were later sold. The Teutonia stand was bought in 1964 by Joseph Bastian, who started work for Schwemmer in 1952. Winter hours are 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Below: Small but well-tended homes along N. 24th Street just east of old North Milwaukee, are typical of the area. To the north, St. Michael Hospital dominates the skyline.

Photo measures 10.25 x 6.75 inches. Photo is dated 02-06-1994.
