New Poe Lock Flooded - A double waterfall, 55 feet high, was created when engineers flooded the new $400 million Poe lock in the Sault Ste. Marie complex for the first time. The new lock, the largest in the Great Lakes - Saint Lawrence seaway system, will be tested for about a month under wet conditions. It may be opened to traffic later in the shipping season.
