New Poe Lock Flooded - A double waterfall, 55 feet high, was created when engineers flooded the new $400 million Poe lock in the Sault Ste. Marie complex for the first time. The new lock, the largest in the Great Lakes - Saint Lawrence seaway system, will be tested for about a month under wet conditions. It may be opened to traffic later in the shipping season. The Poe is 1,200 feet long, 110 feet wide and 61 feet deep along its walls. Saint Lawrence Seaway.
