University of Iowa environmental engineering professor Jerald Schnoor enjoys the shade of fast-growing, six-year-old hybrid poplars he planted. Schnoor says the trees provide a tool to reduce carbon dioxide and other air pollutants. While people think Iowa produces few greenhouse gases, it ranks 13th in the nation in per-capita emissions, Schnoor said.
