Donald C. Slichter, retiring chairman of the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company, Wednesday night received one of the highest accolades a home office executive can hope for. "he understands the problems of the men in the field," a general agent said. Slichter, who retires July 31 after 31 years with the firm, received words of praise and admiration from a number of speakers at a dinner in his honor in the auditorium of the company's home office at 720 East Wisconsin avenue.
