La Verne Hack "tops off" a tobacco plant in his field near Stoughton in Dane County. Hack said taking the top flowering stalk off encourages the plant's leaf growth at the bottom. Hack said he expects to begin harvesting in a couple of weeks. Then, after the drying process, the tobacco will be sold for chewing tobacco.
