Description
For more than a century, Wisconsin has been a major tobacco growing state, producing more cigar binder leaf than any other area in the country. For four generations, tobacco has been harvested on the Neli Skaar farm near Cottage Grove. Skaar and his grandson David harvested three acres of Type 54 tobacco this season. Type 54 is used primarily for cigars and chewing. Last year, 10,584,000 pounds of Type 54 tobacco were harvested in Wisconsin.
