1992 Press Photo Steve Tjugum's A.D.D. Campaign Public Service Announcements

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
(Steve Tjugum) stands at the control board, operated by Julius Fomotor, president of Spectrum Productions Inc. Tjugum, of Pewaukee, is involved with public service announcements for his designated driver program, designed to try to keep drunken drivers off the roads. As owner of an insurance company and as a concerned citizen, Steve Tjugum often brooded about approaches to minimize the sometimes fatal highway presence of drunken drivers. About a year ago a "brainchild" occurred to him, said the Pewaukee resident. The concept was simple. Identify designated drivers at sites like bars or restaurants. Offer them a reward for their abstinence and responsibility for driving drinkers home. Enlist the cooperation of owners of liquor-serving establishments and the support of sponsors such as beer distributors. There you have it - the A.D.D. (America's Designated Driver) Campaign. Public service announcements to launch the effort are scheduled to air in late August on area radio and television stations. Observant Waukesha residents will spy scenes from their own city in the 30-second TV spots. The first of an eventual four public service spots was filmed at Saz's & Pep's Depot, 319 Williams Street. Tjugum serves as lead actor in the first spot.
