Description
Imagine you are deaf and are called to defend yourself in a civil suit for damages. Involvement in a lawsuit can be unsettling for anyone. But for a person whose hearing is impaired, it can be terrifying - unless expert help is available. The Milwaukee Young Lawyers Association provides such help. The association has conducted a number of workshops for such persons to explain the workings of the law and the specifics of finding help. That isn't all. The association is trying to make those who run courts and law-enforcement agencies aware of the problems, to, by means of workshops for judges, lawyers and police officers. Workshop leaders explain what deafness is and the special kind of help needed by those who can not hear. -- Getting fine points -- For example, explained Allan R. Strauss, president of the lawyers' group, judges and attorneys must be made to realize that a translator will not be able to solve every problem.

Photo measures 8 x 10 inches. Photo is dated 04-18-1980.
