A snowman on ice skates, gazing toward the stars, is the winning image in the 1993 Waukesha Winter Jan-Boree poster contest. Raymond Strong, a junior at Waukesha South High School; won $500 for the image chosen from more than 50 entries. The poster will promote the Jan. 21-24 festival. Graphics Factory, a Waukesha printing company, has created a colorful poster using Strong's design, unveiled Thursday. Strong receives $500 for his win. Nine students received honorable mention for their effort: Jenny Nagy, Catholic Memorial High School; Roy Weigner and Lisa Wiedmeyer, Waukesha North High School; Jonathan Garay, Todd Kindberg, Wesley Lauson, Melissa Courtney, Waukesha South High School; Deneen Winchester and Christine Black, Carroll College. The top 10 posters will be displayed during January at the Waukesha Public Library. Judges were Ellie Hughes of Graphics Factory and Cathy Atkinson and Peg Ktorides of the Waukesha Area Arts Alliance. Sue Carter of the parks department is coordinator of the eighth annual winter festival. Raymond Strong Jr., a Waukesha South High School junior whose designed the winning entry for the 1992 Waukesha Jan-Boree poster, also designed the logo for a March 27 run in Waukesha that will benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
