Democrats Nominate Thompson for Hays Post - Washington D.C. - Representative Frank Thompson (D - NJ) left, the House Administration Committee's second ranking Democrat, was nominated Tuesday by House Democratic leaders to replace Representative Wayne Hays (D-Ohio) as committee chairman. Thompson was joined by Representative John Brademas (D-Indiana) and House Speaker Carl Albert. Hays was accused of putting a woman on the committee payroll to be his mistress.
