Description
Boom Bites Deeply -- Above-ground machinery marks the spot where Gulf Minerals Corp. is drilling what is supposed to become the world's deepest uranium mine, near San Mateo, New Mexico. Half of all the uranium known to exist in the U.S. is in a 100-mile strip of west central New Mexico that includes San Mateo. The mineral's market price is up and production is booming, with 16 companies now operating or developing mines and open pit operations in this belt and three thousand people employed in its mines and mills.

Photo measures 8 x 11 inches. Photo is dated 10-29-1976.
