Ben Stevenson, photographed during company rehearsal, is director of the Houston Ballet. he company has figured prominently in recent remarkable growth of the arts in Houston. It has risen from relative obscurity in 1970 to a leadership role in 1980, and some critics refer to it as a model for American ballet of the future. The troupe plans to make its New York debut and to tour 10 states and Canada this season.
