Fran Tarkenton (left), new to ABC Sports this year as an expert commentator on its professional football coverage, will join Howard Cosell (center) and Frank Gifford in the broadcast booth for six of the 20 games of "ABC's NFL Monday Night Football" series. The season premiere debuts on September 3, Labor Day Night (9:00 p.m., EDT, to conclusion) with the Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers playing the New England Patriots. Don Meredith, like Takenton a former star pro quarterback, will again be in the booth for the other 14 games.
