Parades - Milwaukee. An honor guard from the Tripoli Shrine. Sunday was a day of remembrance for Milwaukee veterans. Under damp skies a small group of veterans and spectators gathered on the South Side for the 25th annual Veterans Day Parade. About 60 groups, including veterans, military personnel ROTC units and a few politicians, walked the parade route, which ended at the 14th Ward Veterans Memorial, S. 11th St. and W. Oklahoma Ave. The parade, sponsored by Amvets Post 60, is the city's only Veterans Day parade to honor American military personnel killed in wars. Honored with trophies for their participation in the parade were the Homestead High School band for best band, the Janesville Fife & Drum Corps for best drum corps. the Daley Debutantes for best baton corps, the Collins-Meyer VFW Post for best color guard and the 4th US Army from Ft. Sheridan, Ill., for the best float. Wednesday is the official observance of Veterans Day.
