1987 Press Photo Snow falls on US International Snow Sculpting Competition

Participants of the 1987 US International Snow Sculpting Competition had more to contend with than carving creations from blocks of snow Thursday. A heavy snowfall covered the art objects about as fast as sculptors could clear them off. But the contestants from around the world were undaunted. They continued to transform the blocks into intricate and beautiful sculptures at Pere Marquette Park and the Performing Arts Center. The sculptures will be judged Saturday.
