1978 Press Photo Snow sculptors win competition at Milwaukee County Zoo

Snow sculptors Donald and Laurel Matchie and Barbara Kirby, Donald's sister, reacted to the news that their sculpture "Survival Grasping Onto the Last Chance" won first place Saturday at the snow sculpting competition at the Milwaukee County Zoo. Doris Hartenthaler (mother of Donald and Barbara) shared in their delight. The Oconomowoc sculptors beat 16 other teams from as far away as Alaska. They will go to Quebec to represent the Untied States in the International Snow Sculpting Competition January 30 to February 6.(Winterfest's success may aid in solving hotel occupancy problems, story on Page 3B)
