1990 Press Photo An Easter decorated parking meter in downtown Port Washington

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Putting coins in parking meters may be a little tough in Port Washington but not impossible. Easter decorations festoon downtown's meters, an idea proposed by Port Promotions, a committee of the Chamber of Commerce. Merchants took to the idea without a sales pitch. They feel parking meters inhibit customer traffic anyway, but they agreed that if they have to live with meters they might as well have a little fun. Merchants will remove their decorations each evening and will restore them every morning for the next two weeks. However, each decoration is designed so motorists can put money into the meter, as required.

Photo measures 5.5 x 10 inches. Photo is dated 04-13-1990.
