Description
C.G. Schmidt Inc., a Milwaukee company, has become a leading provider nationally of asbestos-abatement services. Jim Hoover, a Schmidt worker, is shown (right) scraping asbestos fireproofing material from an I-beam and (above) using a special particulate-absolute vacuum system for the final cleanup on a job. Hoover is wearing special protective clothing, including a respirator. Schmidt, a construction contracting and managing company founded in 1920 and located at 4199 N. Richards St., added asbestos abatement to its services in 1978. The company employs up to 100 people, including as many as 50 in its asbestos-abatement work. Much of that work is done in schools during the summer.

Photo measures 10 x 8 inches. Photo is dated 4-13-1985.
