Thirteen windjammers still ply the waters of Maine - now taking passengers on vacation trips instead of trawling fish or carrying cargo as they had done until the 1930s, when steel-hulled diesel vessels began to supersede them. The windjammers, with home ports in Camden, Rockport and Rockland, form the fleet of the Maine Windjammer Association, the largest fleet in the world of these essentially American, two-masted, gaff-rigged schooners. The schooner Roseway plied the water into the afternoon sun in Maine's Penobscot bay. Ships - Sailing
