1992 Press Photo Mom and son work on dragon sand sculpture, Harrington Beach

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Sculpting sand is an art, but shaping sand around a live person is fun. Top: Josh Mark, 10, of Cedarburg, gets a little tickling after he was buried up to his neck in sand Sunday at Harrington Beach State Park. About 25 contestants in four age groups competed in the sand-sculpting event. The sculptured art was a treat for dozens of waders and walkers at the park, who were also treated to sunny weather. Above: Sean Chronis and his mother, Jennifer, from Grafton, smooth the finish on "Puff the Magic Dragon" - you know, the one who lives by the sea, or perhaps has migrated to Lake Michigan. Right: Micki Wollner, 13, of Belgium, places quills in the sand as she works on an animal sculpture.

Photo measures 10 x 7.25 inches. Photo is dated 08-30-1992.
